We built the tool
we wished had existed.
After 18 years in HR and talent acquisition across New Zealand and India, we kept watching the same thing happen — talented, capable people ending up in careers that did not fit. Not because they lacked ability. Because no one had ever given them honest, objective data about where their strengths actually pointed.
Most career decisions are made on guesswork.
Across nearly two decades of hiring, shortlisting and placing candidates in New Zealand and India, we noticed a pattern. The vast majority of professionals choose their career path based on what their peers chose, what was available at the time, or what a single well-meaning teacher suggested when they were seventeen.
The result is a staggering mismatch. Research consistently shows that close to 70% of employees feel disengaged in their current role. That is not a motivation problem. It is a fit problem.
The tools that exist to help — professional career coaches, occupational psychologists, executive assessment centres — are expensive, slow, and largely inaccessible to anyone not already employed by a company willing to pay for them.
"The candidates we interviewed were not underqualified. They were just in the wrong room. Time after time, the right person applied for the wrong role — because nobody had ever pointed them toward the right one."
Built from the inside out — starting with the science.
We started with the psychometric frameworks that enterprise HR teams and global consultancies already trust — the Big Five personality model, cognitive aptitude benchmarking, and structured domain knowledge scoring. These are not new ideas. They are the most rigorously validated tools in occupational psychology.
What was missing was a version of them that any candidate could access — from a phone, in 25 minutes, without paying a consultant's day rate. So we built one. Then we mapped those frameworks against real job families in the markets we know best: New Zealand, Australia, and India.
The result is a platform that gives candidates the same quality of career intelligence previously reserved for corporate talent programmes.
Every assessment grounded in peer-reviewed psychometric science — the same studies cited by Fortune 500 talent teams.
Not generic job titles — actual role families across pharma, finance, technology and operations in NZ, AU and India.
So assessment results flow directly into a verified recruiter profile — closing the loop between insight and opportunity.
The core aptitude test — the most valuable part — costs nothing. Access to this kind of data should not depend on your budget.
Six principles that shape everything we build.
Every assessment is built on validated psychometric frameworks. We cite our research. We do not dress up guesswork in the language of data.
Purchasing power parity pricing means a candidate in Mumbai pays a fair proportion of their income — the same as someone in Auckland.
Your results are private by default. Recruiters only see your profile if you explicitly choose to share it. We will never sell your data.
Sometimes your results will surprise you. We think that is valuable. Knowing you are in a poor-fit role is the first step to finding the right one.
Our career path database is mapped to job families in New Zealand, Australia and India — not just US or UK markets. Regional relevance matters.
Career fit is not a one-time answer. Retake assessments as you grow. Your report updates with your latest scores so it reflects who you are now.
Frameworks trusted by enterprise HR — now available to everyone.
WitsNSkills combines three validated psychometric frameworks into a single assessment suite. Each one is grounded in peer-reviewed research and adapted for real career mapping across the job families most relevant to our markets.
Read our full methodology →- Big Five personality model (OCEAN) — the most replicated framework in occupational psychology
- Cognitive aptitude testing with a 0.63 validity coefficient — 3× more predictive than unstructured interviews (Schmidt & Hunter)
- Domain knowledge scoring benchmarked against real job-family requirements across pharma, finance, tech and operations
- Career Readiness Index (CRI) — a composite score combining all three layers into a single employer-visible metric
- Purchasing power parity pricing — same model used by Notion, Figma and Coursera
Still early. Building carefully.
WitsNSkills is live but still growing. The career path database is expanding. The assessment layers are being refined. New markets are on the roadmap. We are deliberately taking this slowly — because a platform that influences someone's career direction has to get it right.
What we have now works. Candidates are taking the assessment, finding clearer direction, and connecting with employers through TalentOrbit. We are building the next layer — more career families, more markets, a deeper skill assessment suite — with the same care we put into the first.
If you have feedback, a question, or just want to tell us what you found in your results — we read every message.
